History of Havoline
1990

1990's: In keeping with an era of globalization, Texaco next brought out a motor oil designed to meet the needs of consumers around the world: Texaco Havoline® Formula3. Formulated with a uniquely balanced combination of additives, this product protected against starting friction, heat stress and engine deposits. Following its launch in the U.S. in 1991, Havoline Formula3 became a global brand in 1994 when Caltex introduced the product through its 64 country regions and Texaco began distribution shortly thereafter in Europe and Latin America. By 1995, Havoline Formula3 was the top-selling motor oil among major companies and was distributed in more than 100 countries.

Other developments during this period included the European introduction of Havoline® Synthetic Motor Oil in 1992 and the U.S. launch of Havoline® Synthetic Motor Oil SAE 5W-40 in 1993. A blend of 100 percent synthetic base stocks, combined with ultra-sophisticated additive technology, the new products were designed to meet or exceed the most demanding lubrication requirements.

To promote its new generation of motor oils, Texaco adopted the theme, “Havoline®. Add More Life to Your Car.”® For a motor oil with almost a century of proven performance, the longevity theme has obvious appeal. The recent name change – from Havoline Formula3 to Havoline – also reinforces the brand’s long history of excellent performance. As "Havoline," it began in the 1900s; and as "Havoline," it currently stands for quality lubricants in countries around the world.
