Chip Ganassi Team: Tony Glover

Tony Glover, team manager:

When Chip Ganassi was looking to purchase a NASCAR Winston Cup team, he wanted to make sure the team had a solid foundation that he could begin building around. Team manager Tony Glover was the foundation Ganassi needed.

Glover was the current team manager of all three Team SABCO racing teams when Ganassi purchased the team in 2000. Partnered with Andy Graves, Glover became team manager of Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. Since the partnership began, the teams have scored five wins, three poles, 22 top-five and 29 top-10 finishes.

The team experienced growing pains during the 2003 season. With the addition of a third team and two rookie drivers, Glover helped to make all three teams successful. Rookie Jamie McMurray moved to the Havoline Dodge, while Marlin returned to his Coors Light Dodge healthy and ready to race. Rookie Casey Mears was named the new driver of the Target Dodge and for the first time in Winston Cup history a team had two rookies competing for Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors. The team scored one pole, five top-five and 24 top-10 finishes in 2003. McMurray was also named the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup Raybestos Rookie of the Year.

Throughout his 33-year career, Glover has built the reputation as one of the top mechanical minds in motor sports. In addition to his mechanical mind, Glover has a knack for developing drivers and winning prestigious races. Under his guidance, Ernie Irvan, Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemechek captured their first NASCAR Winston Cup wins. Glover also won back-to-back Daytona 500 (three Daytona 500 victories overall) and a Pepsi 400 victory at Daytona International Speedway.

Glover has earned the AC Delco Crew Chief-of-the-year award (1991), the Skoal/Copenhagen First Team award (1992) for his role as crew chief and the Western Auto Mechanic-of-the-Year award (1992).

Glover was born in Kingsport, Tenn. and currently resides in Mooresville, N.C. with his wife Christy and children Brittany and Ashton.
